Duolingo shouldn’t still be marketing itself as “The world’s best way to learn a language.”

I finally got around to having a Spanish voice chat practice yesterday with Chat GPT 4o and this is what I needed 4 months ago!

I was on a kick to brush up my Spanish in March but I didn’t have anyone to talk to in Spanish on a daily basis. So, I paid for Super Duolingo and did daily time on the app. I did learn a lot; however, the one thing missing was the conversational back and forth practice.

With Chat GPT 4o, you can talk in Spanish – or any other language – and ask it to help you practice the language. It’s a personalized tutor that adapts itself to your proficiency level.

I asked Chat GPT to indicate when I made a mistake and to tell me how to correct it. I also asked it to only speak to me in Spanish even if I was having difficulty understanding.

I do prefer a real Spanish-speaking person as a tutor or conversation companion and I am not advocating for replacing foreign language teachers or tutors. However, Chat GPT 4o can augment language practice in between sessions with a live class, tutor, or friend.
